Maclean. Hector Charles Donald

Lt. Commander. Mention in Despatches.
(London Gazette 12 April 1940) Navigating
Officer. October 1939 to 18 March 1940. Made Vice
Admiral Sir Hector Maclean. His father was a Captain in
the Scots Guards.
In 1928 served as a Midshipman in the cruiser DURBAN
and was a Snotty to Lt Prince George of Kent. This was
followed by several destroyers and the cruiser DELHI.
After the ALTMARK incident he served on ARK
ROYAL until she was torpedoed and then transferred to
ANSON. Following a spell in the Admiralty he was
appointed Master of the Pacific Fleet. Several ships
followed including the EAGLE during the Suez Crises.
His last appointment was Chief of Staff at HQ Allied
Forces Mediterranean based in Malta. Appointed CB in
1960 and KBE in 1962. In retirement worked for Elliot
Automation and became a JP and Deputy Lt.
